Why not ? I don't mind having a strong program for free.
It's up to the author. Nobody can tell him to charge for
the program.
It could affect the sale of the commercial programs, but
competition is healthy. Actually, if strength and price alone decided
which program normal people would use, then 99% would
choose Crafty or Yace for example.  These 99% would get
their asses kicked by these programs.
Instead, commercial programmers should focus on nice GUI and
new features.
