As internet becomes more and more part of the lives of hundred of millions all around the world, so, in his own and more humble sphere, chess has became enriched with a great amount of new resources. There are no less -to my knowledge - than hundreds of places where you can see info, read reviews, get database and or free or shareware programs, purchase what you need or want, chat with other people, post, play, look at, etc, etc. But, I am afraid, in the middle of that ocean of places there is plenty room to lose your time in very shallow waters. There are sites absolutely abandoned where the very last freeware they offers is, say, a 1993 vintage miserable piece of junk. Others offer as the last new the defeat of Kasp by deep Blue. Some are just scarcely disguised places for placing adds. Then we have those that just give list of other sites to go. And of course we have chess shops poorly gifted of stuff so in the department of "chess software" you find, as the last marvel of the century, old CM 5500. Even you can meet sites where old companies that no longer exists offer products that nobody can get, except in collector's collections. So we should write a list of the places that deserve our visit because they are still alive, bring fresh news, are brisky places for chatting, etc. Everyone one of us has expended, sometime, some time gliding over that ocean and sureley everybody here has his list of places that deserve a visit. I will begin with my own, very short list. I hope yo can illuminate me with more. a) Chessbase. Surely the best, although restricted mainly to his line of products. Almost every day or at most each two days you get fresh news and besides you can read good articles - like those by MIR- about every bit of info available in the chess world. b) Frank Kissinky -or kassinky?- place. A must for WB collectors. c) ICD. If you finally decide for a purchase, I bet this is the best place. This is not a bow to Steven because he sponsor this site: If you coldly compare prices and services with other shops, he get the edge, easily. d) I would add the Ed's site -rebel site- but currently seems somewhat slept, with no news, not even an announce of what a heck is going on with Rebel XP.
