The principle of the values (mostly ranging for -10 to +10 is the higher the value, the more the engine gives importance to that feature, mostly -if not all- in a defensive way. >what is "open files"? which are its possible values and upon does it depend? So if you set a value of -10 for open files, Fritz doesn't care for them, and won't prevent them (or maybe try to create them for itself) Setting it at a higher value it will take care of open files and look after a possible solution or extra defense. >what is "pawn levers"? The expression "Pawn lever" is IIRC from Kmoch. It's one or more advanced pawns and especially a pawn *move* that tries to open an opposing -closed- pawn formation, to make a breakthrough. If you just care for material balance (or imbalance) you'll be happy to win an opponent's pawn and take the open file it creates with it. But that can be dangerous - as is basic chess knowledge. Especially chess engines are prone to look at material values, not at first to these kind of positional weakening. Set it higher and Fritz will have an open eye for it (especially *defensive*, so if *you* attack the formation) set it lower, and it doesn't care. >what is king safety value? how should it fixed? All the same for king safety. The higher the KS, the more concerned Fritz is with it's own king safety. Set it low and it will play risky and va banque. >Scale Evaluation is 10,100, 1000?? This parameter tells something about weighing material or positional value. AFAIK +10 gives more weight to material, -10 more to positional. But I could be wrong - sorry :) Good luck. J.
