The things you want to do are not immediately obvious because scid is modal; only a subset of options work when you load a PGN file and manipulate it directly, and what you need to do to get all the options working (including adding games of your own) is to create a scid database and then import the PGN file into it. So: 1. Do File | New then type a filename into the popup window; this will create an empty scid database as three files (say scid.sg3, scid.si3, scid.sn3). 2. Do Tools | Import File of PGN Games ... then select the PGN file from the popup window; this imports the PGN file into the database you created in step 1. 3. To start a new game and add it to the database, do Game | New then move pieces around; when satisfied do Game | Add New Game, then fill in the (numerous) game details into the popup window. 4. To verify that all this has worked, press Ctrl-L which opens up the game list. If the PGN file started with N games, the new game you just added will be game (N+1); you can see it by dragging the slider at the bottom of the game list. Once you've got past step 2 it all falls into place; scid is a most impressive piece of work :) Alastair
