Thanks...a lot... OK, that works. I've got 2 games in my Scid database now. That's progress! I exited and reopened Scid, and then reopened the database, and the games are still there. I thought I might have to save them, but guess that's automatic. But it looks like I'm going to run into this "modal" brick wall at every step. I am not sure I'm willing to do so. For example the Scid Game List window is wider than my screen width, and can't be decreased (dragged) in size to fit my screen. You mention dragging the slider at the bottom of the game list, but insofar as I can tell, it doesn't drag (work). It's gonna take a lot of patience, and I'm just not a very patient person. I'm afraid the windows design is lacking. I'm sure it is a great piece of work, but designed primarily for unix, I guess. Those of us used to windows may find it disjointed/disconnected/primitive. Everything pops up as a separate little window rather than being integrated into a single window design. Also the little icons on the main chessboard screen don't have popups to explain what they're for. Also when scrolling the mouse across the menu bar at top, the different menus don't drop down. Etc. Windows users have come to expect such things. I do. My other option was to try Chessbase Light, also a free chess database system, just limited to 8000 games per database. I've been told it is easier than Scid. I was hoping to use Scid so there wouldn't be a limit on the number of games, but maybe I'd better try Chessbase Light first... WP
