Ferret is not on any computer rating list, but it tends to be either the highest rated computer, or close to it, in all of the rating categories on ICC. >B) I decided to put a prize to ensure that Ivan will play at his best all the >time, so not dropping even half a point and even if he is already winning. It can play 40 in 2 hours just fine, but none of the servers support that time control, all they do is Fischer time control and sudden-death time control. I suggest that we could simulate it by playing sudden death in two hours, then reset the clocks by hand, or have an admin do it for us, after move 40. If this sounds bad, I'd be happy to do any Fischer or sudden death time control that you'd like. >D) Maybe w'll have some media coverage, but not for sure. I bet at least a hundred people would watch it on ICC. >E) Are we missing something? There are 13,000 of Ferret's games in the ICC database, if you would like to try to surf that. Also, he's welcome to log on and practice, although I'm going to change the opening book slightly before next Monday. >OK, that's all. Except a meteor strike Earth, nothing can stop this one. >Cheers to all >By the way, Ivan Elo is -next list- 2615. I sincerely hope my program can provide him with some interest. It doesn't have a lot of experience at 40/2, so I don't know what will happen, but then again, how many programs have experience playing GM's at 40/2 ? I expect to lose this match. I expect though that any micro would lose this match. So I feel like I will end up looking bad, but the whole point of building a chess program is to play chess, so if someone that strong is willing to play, I'd be delighted to play. And the program doesn't know it's going to lose, so it will give you the best that it has. If he feels the need for a larger challenge, he can play some blitz, and I believe that I can guarantee that he will have an excellent time. bruce
