Programming language i use is C. Reason: it is the fastest low level programming language available to mankind, which isn't processor specific. With regards to programming environment: i use multiedit under windows to edit my source code. Best compiler there is for a person who develops on his own software (vslick is a good editor for big companies running on any OS by the way). The OS i run diep under at the world championship is the OS where the compiler works that generates the fastest executable. GCC though on paper working for windows too, please don't believe that fairy tale, it just works for linux basically. Right now for me fastest on the K7 MP is gcc 3.1 because it has not only cool optimizations, also because it finally has a bugfree reordering of branches. This is 5% faster for me than any other compiler is at the moment at the K7 MP. So i go for that. Right now busy porting my GUI to linux, because working in textmode is not exactly fun. If next year windows is faster for me, then i go for windows obviously. So the decision what OS to take is easy: try them all and use the fastest. Best regards, Vincent p.s. for coming weekend tournament icsvn2 tournament in netherlands where the whole world top is joining, there the decision what OS to take is less important, i care less for the tournament. might go for the 5% slower windows version there, in order to be able to operate it faster.
