I wouldn't quit the TB calculations just yet.

I've seen data tapes/drives whose creators (Ampex Corp.), claim one cassette
(we're talking about a cassette you hold with BOTH hands here), would hold the
entire card file for the library of congress.

The information is retrivable in jig time.

These drives are not currently interfaced with PC's, but I can't see why they
couldn't be, especially since the PC's are becoming more powerful every year.

They do exceed even a Slater - sized budget currently, but the cost will
certainly be coming down.

These units may be too extreme for chess (they're used to grab data from
satellites, etc.), but it just shows that the TB work should continue - the
technology is there. We just have to get a version with a much cheaper price
tag!

(Unless we can get Winona Ryder to shoplift one for us :-) )
