But anyone can develop a parallel program on a single processor
machine.  At some point you need a real parallel machine to tune
it up though.  But you can get realistic numbers for things like
amount of extra work and so on, which is where I do a lot of my
tuning.  With Cilk you just specifiy number of processors and
it doesn't really matter how many you actually have.  It may be
this way with other systems too, I don't know.
