-= The System : A World Champion's Approach to Chess by Hans Berliner =-
What to write about this book ? When I first came across this book
on the selves of my local bookstore I just thought "Another common
How to win book...".Hopefully I was wrong !
Its mainly a book for tournament chess player, especially for those
who participate in correspondence tourneys.Here, for the first time,
he explains the set of principles -- The System -- that he used to
guide him to the right moves and at his triumph at the 5th World
Championship ! "The System" helps improve the reader's analytical
methods, explains in detail the workings of a World Champion's
decision-making process, and features thought-provoking analysis of
key chess openings.Actually, this is abbok about how to pley chess
opening.However ,it is not a compendium of opening variations.You will
not be able to look up your favourite lines here ! However, you will
be able to read about the ideas that should guide you play in most
openings.
Dr Hans Berliner was also involved in Computer Chess. He first wrote
a backgammon program that beat the reigning world champion in 1979 ,
and then moved on to chess programming. His Hitect program won the
World Computer Championship twice and was one of the first programs to
score good results against top-level human players.
This book certainly makes you openminded !
