Instead of challenging this by accepting, Shredder played the Falkbeer Countergambit, following up with 3...e4, which currently has a rather poor theoretical status (the Nimzovich line with 3...c6 is doing better). Then it entered a subvariation which has been deemed definitely bad since the first decade of the last century by playing 7...f5. Of course, Comet still had to play very well to win after this, but Shredder gave it a terrific position to start from. Why? Regards, Vine Smith
