The Transmeta chip uses 256 bit long instrucions. It doesn't necessarily mean it
has 256 bit registers or a 256 bit memory address space.

Even current Transmeta chips use long instruction words. The main advantages of
the chip are its ability to emulate other processors' instruction sets
(including x86) and low power consumption. It isn't targeted at applications
requring high datathroughput or computation speed.
