I compiled a version of chest 3.19 using the DJGPP compiler (gcc 3.1) which
should run on DOS 6.22 -- it definitely runs in Win98SE MS-DOS mode (since I
don't have an older DOS machine to test it on).  Please send a note to the email
address in my profile so I'll know where to email the package (600 KB in size).
