Sorry for the blank first reply. An application that is compiled as a Win32 console application will run in a DOS/Command Prompt window on Win32 operating systems, but won't run under plain DOS. Additionally, programs that use DPMI (DOS Protected Mode Interface) services will usually run under Windows (Windows provides the necessary DPMI host services), but not under plain DOS, unless you have other software that provides the DPMI host services (QDPMI, 386Max, etc.).
