I'm sure he tries new things to see how they work, but unlike commercal >programs he does it in public. I've at least found what happened. About a week ago I was considering trying to "hash" king safety. I already hash the pawn-structure analysis for king safety, but was going further. It didn't work, and I started taking this out. But unfortunately, I didn't get it *all* out. As a result, passed pawn scores are pretty much random at present, which is causing lots of problems. May get it fixed tonight, if I don't fall asleep. But it is definitely a serious problem. A couple of the games certainly showed something was wrong. But the big key was a game against junior yesterday (ban on ICC) which was a dead draw, but which Crafty lost. Because it "thought" it saw a cute shot to win a big positional bonus. It saw a way to excite the "bug" instead... Maybe it will play better here before long... Have fun...
