How much engines need an EGT for ending E is a good question?

If attacking and defending are equally difficult, the EGT may make little
difference to the end result ... but maybe the theoretical value of the game is
flipping from win to draw to win ... during the play.

I would be interested to see how well Crafty et al can win such endings as KQKR
and KRKKN (with controlled depth of search) against a defence armed with the
EGT.

To see the effect of the EGT, maybe you should take the EGT away from one,
rather than both, sides.
