Subject: Is there a "Best" Chess Programming Language?

Author: Robert Henry Durrett

Uri noted that his software is written in "pure" C.

That made me grin!!! The C language is a relatively recent development.

My son, a Computer Science Professional, "turns his nose up" at Fortran, saying
"Nobody programs in Fortran anymore, Dad." "That would be dumb!"

At 38, he learned C about 23 years ago. That was what they were teaching in
introductory Computer Science courses those days.

[Incidentally, he actually learned using a monitor and keyboard!!! That blew my
mind. Card readers must be out. It's a good thing, really.]

If a program is not C, it's not a "real" program, according to him. :)

I guess young people, not exposed to the explosion of languages three decades
ago, don't see the relative immaturity of C.

Well, Computer Science students just "can't help it." They "see" in "C."

It seems no surprise that people write chess engine programs in C.

What am I missing here?
