No. Russell has every right to think what he pleases and say what he
pleases. However, if he doesn't know much about the games he's
comparing, I see no reason to take any notice of his opinion about
which game is more difficult or deeper.

Since all the specific statements he made (the ones about tic-tac-toe)
were wrong, I thought it might be worth investigating what basis there
might be for the less specific statements.

Of course he is entitled to hold whatever opinion he likes. This
doesn't make me wrong, since I don't disagree with it.
