Subject: Frank J. Byrne Memorial Computer Chess Challenge - Tiger is Champ

Author: Mike Byrne

Date: 19:35:36 06/09/02

Match is Over – Tiger Wins!

Tiger sweeps last 4 games, wins match 10-4 in wins.

After drawing game 19, Tiger wins 4 straight games to clinch the title of the
1st Frank J. Byrne Memorial Computer Chess Challenge pitting the world's best
freely available commercial computer chess program - Chess Tiger v14 by
Christophe Theron against the world's best freely available non-commercial
computer chess program - Crafty v18.15 by Robert Hyatt.

In the previous games, Crafty had won games 1, 2, 8 and 12. Tiger roared to
victories in games 4, 5, 6, 9, 15 and 17. Games 3, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, and
18 ended in a draw. Tiger wins the match 10-4 in wins. All games were played
40/2 with no sudden death.

Although, this modified version Crafty did maybe a little better than expected
in capturing 37% of the points, I have decided not to release it.

Match Summary:
Tiger v14.0 CP 0 0 .5 1 1 1 .5 0 1 .5 .5 0 .5 .5 1 .5 1 .5 .5 1 1 1 1 = 14.5
Crafty 18.15 1 1 .5 0 0 0 .5 1 0 .5 .5 1 .5 .5 0 .5 0 .5 .5 0 0 0 0 = 8.5

Like the days of yore, it is the first program to win 10 games and the program
must have a margin of victory of 2 games. A winning score could be 10-8 or
21-19 it all depends on how the games go. Draws do not count - it just wins
that count.

The match was held just outside of Philadelphia.
