Go to /etc/rc.d/init.d and move the file "kudzu" to some unused directory.

I create a directory in the init.d directory called "UNUSED" and I move
_all_ the initscripts that I don't want to automatically run into that
directory.

kudzu is the "thing" that checks for new hardware...

Another option is to build a new kernel yourself and disable all the USB
support so that you won't ever see the problem again.  Assuming you really
don't want to have any USB devices connected, of course...

USB is working fine btw.  I have a sony laptop with a USB floppy and it works
like a charm...
