Well I upgraded as soon as I could, so ... :-)

You get a compiler that generates slightly faster code, with a global optimizer
that can inline between different .cpp files (really!), a *much* improved
standard library, and a new flashy Visual Studio that I actually like a lot.

The professional version also includes C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, J# (eventually),
Crystal reports and a bunch of other stuff. Just if you feel like doing some
non-chess programming sometimes.

A limitation is that you need a Windows NT/XP machine to use it. It refuses to
even install on 98/Me!


Worth it? Well, this is a hobby project, so who cares about the cost/benefit
analysis? If Microsoft keeps updating it once every 4 years, it will be like 25
cents a day. That's cheap!  :-)
