An Athlon MP 1800+ (1.53Ghz) CPU is $146.  So that's $300 right there (for
duals).  Without a motherboard, case, power supply, video card, or a HD.

How did you come up with $500?!

My dual 1.73Ghz cost me about $1800 all-in-all.  But I have a lot of extra crap.

I could build it now for about $1450 or so.  Take about $200 off for a 1.53Ghz.
