They probably won´t work, not due to faulty processors but due to the fact that
they were never meant to run SMP which they did at first, however when AMD
discovered that they worked as SMP, they retracted the XP´s and "phased them
out" as they said. Today you should only go for MP´s if looking for a dual AMD
comp.

If you get updated on all the details associated with buying the right parts for
a dual and go for "more than enough" cooling power and main power supply, then
you should be able to get a dual 1600+-1800+ system up and running for about
1100$ (that is if you don´t go for expensive graphic card etc, and without all
the bells and whistles.)
