This pretty much makes it full out UNIX. Yes things are different here and there, but do not confuse the GUI with the actual OS. Their OS layer is quite comfortable with anything UNIX related. threads, multitasking, SMP, privileges, permissions model, shell (with all the common stuff: chmod, ls, cat, less, man, ls, nice, renice, top, ps, ... etc.). The process model is very similar, if not identical, with BSD. The only major difference with other nixes, I know about, is their Shared-Objects (.so) model. You can run NFS, XFree, apache and other common unix related software without any trouble ... :-) So, for all that it is worth, OSX is unix. If you want to try the UNIX part of OSX go to (using their finder aka “Windows explorer”): /<HD>/Applications/Utilities and run “Terminal”. and Yes OSX is the most beautiful OS on the market today. It is simple and elegant to use. Cheers, hristo >sorry for the previous empty post. > >cheers >pavs
