>>ps, to make this post ontopic, I have seen sme nice chess programs on MacOS, >>and AFAIK there is also a MacOS version of winboard. There is no version of xboard/winboard which runs under MacOS9 or below. The only thing that works is xboard together with an X11 distribution, under OSX. (precompiled packages for both X11 and xboard available, so it's a trivial task to do) I see 2 reason why there is no xboard/winboard for OS9 or below: (1) No X11 available and nobody wanted to create a GUI for OS9 (or below) (2) Interprocess communication under OS9 (or below) is very specific to this platform. (no POSIX available) >Anyway, question was "anyone using Mac OS" not "is OS X UNIX". Im not using >Mac, but im also interested to hear what chess software you use in Mac? And >how much Mac users are here (if anybody at all)? *raises his hand and waves* :) For OS9 (and below) there are 2 commercial engines available: (1) Chessmaster (I think 6000) (2) Hiarcs7 (not the best port GUI-wise IMO but at least it runs) For OSX there are no commercial engines available. (You can most likely run both Chessmaster6000 and Hiarcs7 in the compatibility environment 'Classic' though) Luckily, there are many chess engine available with source, which can usually be compiled quite easily for OSX. (with the free compiler from Apple, okok, it's more or less gcc...) Engines running under OSX include Crafty, old version of Sjeng, Amy, old version of Monsoon (I think it was called different back then) and TSCP. [hey, it's a start! :)] Sargon
