People like SMP because it's so much easier to program for. The only time people resort to asymmetrical MP is when shared memory is not viable due to the # of processors involved. There are already a large number of message passing chess programs, but with the uniprocessor speed we have today and common availability of MP motherboards, why not write an SMP program? -Tom
