My impression is that the missing part is: going directly from the end of one
thread to the next thread without having to return to the main message listing.

Assuming that's what's desired, I would like to suggest a refinement.  Since I
read from least recent thread to most recent thread, [So I won't miss anything
when pages are retired] I would like to jump from end of current thread to the
beginning of the more recent thread.  Someone else might wish to jump from the
current thread to the next older thread.  If both ways were provided, then
everybody would be happy.  This is not a show-stopper.  The way it is now is not
bad.
