You can buy decent ones on sale for under $100 apiece and they last several years. (Power outages really suck for computers, and short outages occur shockingly frequently in my town in Massachusetts.) Then, if the power goes off, you can save your work in all apps (chess and otherwise) and shut down in an orderly fashion if the power doesn't come back on in a very short time.
