When you travel 1/2 way around the world, lugging a UPS is a non-starter for an idea. And even if you do, UPS's _do_ fail. I had 1/2 my 8-node quad cluster go down a few months ago when the UPS itself failed. You _must_ have some sort of way to restart. I personally don't use the board position as that loses information (repetition list). I restart by reading in the move file if it was not corrupted. Otherwise I type it in by hand. And correct my writing mistakes on the fly as needed.
