Every engine will find the answer in a 5 ply search provided that it's conducting a fixed depth, full width tree search. In null-move search due to the horizon effect, finding the checkmate can be deferrred to ply 8 at worst case (assuming that no one around is using R > 3 in null-move search!). But even a depth of 8 plies is a piece of cake for most engines. Generating positions of mate in 4 or mate in 5, will pose a better challenge for engines. Omid.
