Usually, they are named after either the book they came out of (e.g. WAC == Win
At Chess) or the program that uncovered them (Aransan) or the person who
designed it.  That sort of thing.  There are literally hundreds of them.

Most of them have a lot of errors in them.  WAC is probably the most debugged,
but it is also fairly trivial.  It is good to work with when you are just
getting started because almost every program will get most of them right.
