An AMD website noted that Opteron is intended for servers. But the servers are the only computers with significant multiprocessing. Also, the operating systems designed for multiprocessor servers might be the only operating systems designed for this application. Finally, compilers for creation of programs to run on server operating systems should be capable of compiling an AMD SMP Crafty. These considerations and others seem to indicate that Opteron would be the only real choice. Hammers would be unable "to drive in the nail." [Pardon the pun.] Am I missing anything? Bob D.
