Yes, I'd prefer a tackhammer. I figured it out with the help of Mike S. (above),
but it's not as simple as I would prefer. I would still prefer a tackhammer. For
example, there should be a simple little utility that would parse a PGN file and
produce statistics for a given position, nothing more. I'm almost motivated to
learn one of the new IBM-compatible programming languages to write it myself,
but that would be a sledgehammer approach to a tackhammer problem!?  :)
