I meant storing numbers, i.e. center control squares, king protection points,
developement points or penalities, etc. An awful of things can be done in this
way. As for discovering new functions, that is not going to happen the way most
programs are written today. Although, there is a computer program that owns a
patent on a new type of transistor, that it created all by its self, but no one
to my knowledge has built that kind of learning into chess programs today.
