You won't really want to count all of them. :-)

I don't think that this works fine. Think first, have a concept, have ideas, a
certain structure, then start.

To be honest, since months I want to start to write a chess program in Java. At
first without engine, just loading/reading/replaying games/pgn. But at this
moment I still have no idea how to implement the board graphically. One large
graphic or 8x8 gifs to better recognize action/mouse events? Problems having
sliding pieces then? I have no idea. Hopefully some Java chess programmer reads
this and could give me a senseful hint.
