IBM have announced the new pSeries 630, built on the 1GHz Power4 processors and running AIX 5. Have a look at http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/61/25873.html "A base pSeries 630 with a single 1GHz processor, 1GB of main memory, 18GB of disk and a CD drive costs $14,120. An additional Power4 processor for the first of two CPU/memory cards in the pSeries 630 chassis costs $5,000; a whole two-way card costs $11,000. So a four-way machine with base memory and disk will cost $30,120." As I understand it, the Power4 blows the doors off Itanium2 for integer performance. So a dual for approx $20000 and a quad for approx $30000 would represent an *immense* amount of chess for your money. Me, I'd love to see Crafty on one of these guys clean up ICC... Of course, while it's dreamtime, IBM have 32-way boxes with 1.4GHz Power4 CPUs Cheers Adam
