I found an old usenet post that has me bummed out. It's a discussion between Bruce and someone who ran fritz vs. the ecm suite back in 1996 or something. What bums me out is that both ferret and fritz on old hardware (pentium 150, ppro 200) solve around 600 ecm problems at 20 sec / move. My program, on a K7-1.5ghz is currently at around 610! I also know that Pete's Warp is getting around 600 at 10 sec / move -- 1/2 the time! I used to think that all you needed for good ecm scores was speed and luck. Speed to crunch through the moves fast and luck to pick the right move without seeing why on a large subset of the test. Now I'm not so sure. My questions are: how does your favorite engine perform on ecm/20 on recent hardware? What do you think helps / hinders performance on a hard tactical suite like this? How much of a coorelation between performance on ecm/20 and engine strength do you think there is? Scott
