Shane has done a wonderful job with this program and it has many features that the commercial programs offer. And it reads compressed pgn files. I have an approximate 300M pgn file compressed with gzip (on Linux) and uncompressed, it is about 1.5G. SCID takes about 9 minutes to load it but then it rips. SCID is just an excellent chess database management system. Steve
