If someone figures out I like chess because I post here, and they grab my email address, and they send me an ad for some chess thing, it's spam. Maybe I'll like to get the spam, but it's still spam. Steve is spamming when he sends out his (very infrequent and non-obtrusive) ads. However, he's spamming people who signed up for his free thing, which he keeps incredibly ad-free by modern standards, so what I most agree with about your post is its first two sentences. Of all the spam I get via email, Steve's bothers me the least, since I consider it a small price to pay for being able to use CCC. I could have my named removed from his list, but I think it would be very ungrateful of me to do so. I don't want to get Steve-spam every day, but if he wants to sent out a little more, I won't complain a bit. bruce
