Subject: MOD: Pro-Spam/Anti-Spam and Spam Haiku

Author: Dann Corbit

We are starting to get complaints about the spam posts. Some feel a couple
emails a year is a small price to pay for the thousands of dollars it costs to
host and maintain a 24x7 computer chess forum. Others feel that even a single
email is one too many.

Suggestion:
If you get an email and you don't like it, send a reply and ask to please not
send more emails.

Speaking of Spam, here is the official SPAM Haiku site:

Here are mine:

Now, that having been said, I would like to point something out...
Maintaining any sort of message board or web site is a lot of work. That work
will generally be vastly underappreciated. If everything goes well, you will
hear nothing, and if any little thing goes wrong, flames will sprout from all
over the planet.

Volker Pittlik hosted the Winboard forum for a long time and got sick of it.
Thomas Mayer hosted the Winboard forum for a long time and got sick of it.
Frank Quisinsky is sick of hosting his chess pages.

In each case, I think this is because a huge, arduous, long-lasting work effort
is met with nothing but complaints (if anything) and rarely any positive
feedback.

Let's hope that Steve never tires of it, because we all get a lot of enjoyment
out of CCC.

IMO-YMMV
