In phase 2, when all engine/hardware combinations play each other for a second
time:
(Round 5): Shredder/Intel beat Fritz/AMD by winning the last 2 of 71 games!
if that was a 'timed run for the line', it's sophisticated match-play!
the site now has a neat graph facility to show the progress of a match
it also gives the White/Black breakdown of results
Fritz/AMD clearly had the best of the 1st half but Shredder came back
I am tempted to ask what 'learning' facilities are included in the engines
(Round 6): Shredder/AMD is beating Fritz/AMD 19-9 with 27 draws
certainly looks like somebody tweaked something; what are the rules here?
Shredder won the first 5 games but has lost the last three
I don't see any detail about the set-up of the chess engines or hardware.
The engines appear to be playing 3-5-man endgames DTC- rather than
DTM-optimally, i.e. minimaxing Depth-to-Conversion rather than Depth-to-Mate.
Maybe someone modified Eugene's code to create Nalimov-compatible DTC EGTs!
Anyone got any other insights into this interesting duel? My German is
unfortunately about zero.
