How??? I should think it would be quite possible to have effective
copyright protection and be winboard compatitable. In fact, I can think
of no difficulty here at all.... other than the programs would now show
up in huge numbers on the servers. In fact, I would think that the first
commercial program to do this would have a very large sales spike. They
don't even need to be Winboard compatitable, just ICS compatitable - it
would still be possible to do automated testing on a local network.

In fact, I've always wondered why they don't show up automated already on
the ICS serves... Most top programs are Auto232 compatible, and I
would have guessed that someone would have written an auto232 to ICS
interface by now.
