I have played thousands of games against Roman. And he almost *never* tries any anti-computer stuff, probably because he wants to work on skills that will help him in tournaments where he plays, rather than to work on beating a computer he will never face for money in one of these tournaments. Bill Lombardy played Crafty daily for a year or so, and while he doesn't play actively in tournaments any more, he played "chess" against Crafty and had a lot of fun (and lost most games, I might add). The "younger" generation seems less hesitant about "anti-computer" stuff and will simply do whatever is necessary to win the game, assuming it isn't going to hurt them against humans at all... Yasser plays the same... "real chess"... and generally gets hammered for doing so (blitz). So this fixation on playing "real chess" is an issue...
