I think it is not possible to find a transposition at the root node, except you
keep the information in the table between the moves. You can find a
transposition at least at depth 3, for example:

startposition

1. d2-d4  d7-d5 2.Ng1-f3
1. Ng1-f3 d7-d5 2.d2-d4
