You are 100% right.

A sample of my games:

against ParSOS: Mate in 1, but my flag fell. Draw because of no mating
material for my opponent.

against XiniX: Mate in 32, flag fell. Opponent has a rook so I lose.

against Brutus: Draw (unequal bishops, both programs 0 score). Alexander
plays on for 20 moves and pushes me through the clock. I lose.

against Insomniac: I am mated in 4. His program goes through the WinBoard
clock and refuses to move. Flag falls. I win.

This event has little to do with engine strength, really.
