The Chessmaster GUI handles the opening book and endgame database access for The
King. This is so the GUI can use the opening book and EGDB information without
having to access the chess engine to do it, and because Johan likes to keep his
engine independent of such matters.

As for your numbers (2400 in Winboard, 2550 in CM GUI), I'm pretty sure that
these are not very accurate, at least the first one. The King has had 2500+
performances in Winboard without an opening book in several independent
tournaments.
