Back when SMP wasn't _nearly_ as common as it is now.

When you talk about Tiger, or Rebel, or Fritz, or HIARCS, you're talking about a
handful of programs all 20 Elo (IMO of course) of each other.

That small advantage you speak of doesn't seem so small then.

I believe it's not the *reason*, but I do believe it is a "factor".
