Fine, even though this is a completely pointless exercise in which nothing can
be proved. I can come up with any reasonable number of positions which prove you
wrong, and you can say "but what about the other infinite number of positions
which you didn't test". I know (as does everybody else on this board, as other
posts have shown) that you are wrong. But, here's my "proof" anyway.
This is the first and only position I tested, and it is the one that I posted
just yesterday from the "Frank Poole vs. HAL 9000" game.
[D]r1bq1rk1/2p1bppp/p7/1p2n3/4Qn2/1BP5/PP1P1PPP/RNB2RK1 w - - 0 12
I do not have CM5000 installed, and there is no reason to test CM7000 because it
is the same engine as CM6000. So I only tested CM5500, CM6000 and CM8000 and I
used the default personality ("optimizing the selectivity and hash" is equally
pointless, since it brings up the obvious question of 'what is optimized'?).
Additionally, your test of "setting depth searches to 10,
12, and 14 ply" is also pointless, because it is the MOVE that is chosen at
those depths that is important, not how fast it gets there.
Here are the results (MY test, which makes much more sense, was to find 12.d4
and stick with it on subsequent depths) on my PIII-600:
CM5500 took 1:13, going to depth 10 (about 6.4M positions) and showed a score of
0.31.
CM6000 took 0:29, going to depth 4/9 (about 3.0M positions) and showed a score
of 0.43.
CM8000 took 0:05, going to depth 3/7 (about 312K positions) and showed a score
of 0.41.
I hope we've had enough of this silliness now....
