I remember reading a study some years ago. It was a small study, but
interesting. They took 20 women who never played chess before, gave 10 of them
chess computers the other 10 had none. I don't remember the all the details but
the women who used computer to help train improved much faster then the women
without computers. It seems to help much more then reading books or playing very
weak players alone.
