Depending on how many entrants you get from outside of North America you might call this the North American Championship. My other concern is the opening book thing. That will probably lose a few top entrants there who might have come otherwise. If you are planning on this being a rival to WCCC or WMCCC then you will have to offer something more than they do I think. Most of the top authors live in Europe (or at least closer to Europe than North America). Unless there is a big first prize or some other incentive, like maybe getting the chance to play a Deep Blue like computer (if one existed), you might have trouble getting people genuinly interested. In addition to that, if you are going to make rules like the opening book rule, I think that will turn more people away, or at least maybe get some people leaning towards not coming. I also think the "you don't have to be the author" rule is vague. I assume you mean that someone can operate the author's program with permission, but as it's stated I understand it that I could buy a copy of Shredder and show up and compete with it. Imagine what it's going to be like when you have 50 copies of Fritz in the tournament. In any case, good luck. Russell
